How to Compress Images in Your Browser
- Upload Your Image(s): Drag and drop your JPG, PNG, or WebP files into the upload box or select files from your computer or phone.
- Adjust Compression Quality: Slide the quality controller to strike the desired balance between file size reduction and visual fidelity. Typically, 75% to 85% delivers massive size savings with negligible perceptible difference.
- Optional Dimension Scaling: Enable resizing to downscale high-resolution camera images (e.g. down to 1920px wide) for even smaller files.
- Download: Click "Download Compressed" for a single image, or "Download All (.ZIP)" to retrieve your entire batch in one archive.
Why Compress Images?
High-resolution images shot on mobile phones or modern cameras often range from 3 MB to over 15 MB in size. When embedded into websites, blogs, or emails, these massive files drastically inflate load times, hurt search engine rankings, and consume unnecessary mobile data. Our browser-side compression engine reduces your image payload by up to 70–80% without noticeable degradation.
Supported File Formats
- JPEG / JPG: Efficient lossy compression for photographs and multi-color imagery.
- PNG: Converts to lightweight WebP or compressed JPEG while maintaining crisp graphics.
- WebP: State-of-the-art modern image compression standard created by Google, delivering superior compression ratios with alpha channel preservation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will compressing my image reduce its physical resolution?
No. By default, image compression preserves your exact pixel
dimensions (width & height) while re-quantizing image data to strip out redundant bytes.
If you wish to reduce dimensions, you can check "Resize dimensions before compression".
Is there any risk of my photos being stored?
None whatsoever. This application runs entirely client-side using
JavaScript in your web browser. No photos or metadata are ever transmitted across the
internet to our servers.
